Real Wedding: A Big, Beautiful Party for Alex & Joe at Waipuna Estate
A relaxed celebration full of laughter, love, and some of the best speeches Waipuna’s team has ever heard.
Alex and Joe were looking for a wedding venue that felt calm, beautiful, and stress-free—and the moment they arrived at Waipuna Estate, they knew they’d found it.
Tucked away in the hills with panoramic views of Canterbury, Waipuna felt like a peaceful escape from the city, while still being just a short drive away. “It felt remote and private, but not inconvenient,” they said. “And then there was Sarah—she was just amazing. So sweet and accommodating. She made us feel at home instantly.”
The ceremony lawn view sealed the deal, but what really stood out was how easy Waipuna made the entire experience. “Everything you need—and we mean everything—is already there. It’s special to be able to get ready onsite, have the ceremony, reception, and photos all in one place, and then just walk a few steps to bed at the end of the night!”
Sarah and the team provided plenty of options to make the day truly theirs, without any hidden surprises. The support was there every step of the way—from early planning to the final dance floor moments.
Their vision? A wedding that felt like them —nothing too formal, nothing too fussy. “We wanted a big, slightly more dressed-up version of a typical party. And that’s exactly what we got. It was relaxed, fun, and genuine.”
The vibe was classic-modern, with a black and white base, soft beige tones, and a pop of sage green. It was elegant but not overdone, with plenty of personal touches and a few non-traditional choices that made the whole day feel even more like "Alex & Joe."
Their ceremony was led by the wonderful Court from Married by Court, setting a warm and light-hearted tone from the start. Kasia Stanicich worked her magic on makeup, and Monique Woods created a timeless hairstyle that perfectly suited the day’s modern style. Alex wore a stunning gown from Paperswan Bride, and Joe and the groomsmen looked sharp in classic black suits from Crane Brothers.
The florals from The FlowerPress were full of softness, and personality, and tied everything together.
George & Jane (Tish & Tim) captured the day in both photos and video, blending in effortlessly and documenting every meaningful, hilarious, and joy-filled moment. “They were incredible,” said Alex. “We felt so comfortable with them, and the footage they captured is something we’ll treasure forever.”
Dinner was served by Jacob from The Bespoke Chef, whose relaxed, modern menu was a huge hit with guests. The cake, a gorgeous creation by Sophie from FullTime Tart, was as delicious as it was beautiful.
And the speeches? Let’s just say, they’ll go down in history. “Even the staff commented on how wild and hilarious they were. It was one of the best parts of the night!”
Looking back, some of Alex & Joe’s favourite memories include Alex's entry to the ceremony, walking down the aisle with Mum and Dad, their bridal party photos high up on the Waipuna hill, and the final few hours of the night dancing with friends under the stars.
Their advice for other couples?
“Do what you want. Be true to yourselves—it’s your day, not anyone else’s. Don’t let anyone make you second-guess your decisions. And don’t overplan. Relax, be present, and have fun.”
Alex also shared a laugh about forgetting to change into her second dress until the very end: “I think I wore it for about an hour—but that’s how you know you’re having a great time!”
At the end of the day, Alex & Joe agree that it’s not about having the flashiest wedding—it’s about celebrating your love, your way.
